Sterling IRB, registered with the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) as IRB00001790, complies with all federal regulations pertaining to the protection of human research participants. As an independent review board, Sterling IRB is able to serve as the IRB on record for institutions such as medical centers, academic institutions, and community hospitals if one of the following conditions is met:
| 1. | There is no local IRB with jurisdiction.
|
| 2. | The local IRB has jurisdiction, but defers it to Sterling IRB in writing. |
A Sample IRB Release Letter is provided for institutions who are requesting that Sterling serve as the IRB on record for a study that would normally fall under local IRB jurisdiction.
If an institution is conducting research under a Federalwide Assurance (FWA) and plans to use the services of Sterling IRB, it must complete an IRB Authorization Agreement and include Sterling as an IRB on its FWA. If Sterling is not currently listed as an IRB on the institution's FWA, the institution must update its FWA to include Sterling and submit that change to OHRP.
Investigators who conduct research at institutions and are submitting an application to Sterling should be aware of any obligations that they may have to use the institution's IRB.
